Google were kind enough to mail me a 50€ promotional code for Adwords - am I right in thinking this can ONLY be used with a brand new account? I can't apply it to my newest account I've setup (less than 1 week old)?

Generally speaking you're right it is for a new account, however I would try it anyway especially since you have a very new account. Sign in and go to Billing Preferences" and towards the bottom there is an area to "redeem coupon code". Try it and see what happens. If it's no good it will say that the coupon is not valid or something to that effect.

The account has to be less than 14 days old - and you can only apply one voucher per account - Yes I've tried (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
There doesn't seem to be any reason why you can't open multiple accounts to use up the vouchers (i ended up with 4 vouchers)

I like your thinking about opening several accounts, however, I'm sure it's against Google's T&Cs. One entity can only have one Google Adwords account.

By one entity I mean a person and a business are two different things. Therefore I see no reason why you couldn't have two accounts.
