My Content

My website is coded in a custom PHP framework (MVC). No matter what page is requested, it goes to my index.php for processing. When a page is requested that doesn't exist, I just show the homepage. Now I put on my SEO hat and realize I'm not issuing a 404 status code, should I be doing this? Currently, any missing page looks like a duplicate homepage.

Since my site is dynamic, I don't want search engines caching it. By added this meta tag <meta name="robots" content="noarchive" />, my site is no longer cached. By doing this, will I be given an SEO penalty?

Google talks about the importants of using heading tags. On my homepage, I'm using <h1> containing additional markup including <input>, <img>, <a> and <span>. The <a> and <span> tags is used to insert dynamic content using jQuery. Search engines never see the dynamic content, but the additional tags are still there. Here are two examples of my <h1> tags. The first example is static content, the second is dynamic content. What SEO problems, if any, are introduced by my markup below?

CODE
<h1>Search for Horses: <input name="find" type="text" value="" /> <img src="maglass.png"   alt="" onclick="$('#horse_search').submit(); return false;"/> <a href="/searchhorse">Advanced Search</a></h1>

CODE
<h1>Welcome to the HorseGalleria, The Equestrian Marketplace. <span id="welcome_msg"></span> <span id="lastlogin"></span> <a href="/listings"></a></h1>

I have a new website and I need to be near the top for organic search results, otherwise I don't think my site will be used by the masses. Looking at other SEO forums, they are full of spam and how to make $50 a day with PPC or people selling backlinks. I joined this form to get real solutions to grow my business.

My background is software engineering for about 30 years now. So I decided to build a web 2.0 website. After 29 months of part time work, I finished it in April. Now I need users to get some momentum. I did the usually AdWords and picked up a few users, but Google anayltics showed most of the hits going to the homepage and no further navigation. I decided to code up a click-fraud detection script.

A couple of sites were using, what appears to be, scripts autoclicking on my Google adWords eating up my budget. A quick block of these sites fixed that problem. I started thinking about running my own Pay Per Click widget. Instead of giving Google hundreds of dollars a month, why not give it to my users? So, I coded up a couple of widgets currently paying 12 cents for each unique click.

But I need real help. A trip to the bookstore found "Get to the top on Google" and now this forum.

Let's see if we can grow my business/website.
